There are several options to choose when trying to create an activity. Try to combine apps together to create a piece to be shown to a class. Some apps are better creating learning objects and some are better for displaying materials. I like some of the projection apps that are being created. They are getting closer to being used as interactive whiteboard like http:DOCERI.com
Creating a Digital Graphic Novel
Using either Cartoon Studio or Strip Designer create comics with bubbles to tell a short story. Add audio to the image withFotobabble and upload to the web. I am testing put a couple of apps that could be used for this idea.
Class File Share
Use Dropbox as a means to send file to students to complete using whatever document editor that is loaded. (I prefer to use Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite.). Rename the file and upload back to Dropbox to be graded.
Battlefield Discussion
Learn about historical events through apps (ex. Gettysburg app) show class what happen through the event withMapProjector. Zoom in the area that is to be discussed and pan around to demonstrate the event.
Lego Design/Build
Students can use the Blocks! app to design a prototype made out of Legos. The Teacher can approve or change the model. If changes are needed, the student(s) would have to create a fix to have it approved. Once approved by the teacher, the student build a prototype to see if what was design really works.
Word Clouds
Several folks like to use Wordle and Tagxedo to create word clouds to illustrate a topic. Several of these sites are not iPAD friendly. The app WordCloud give some of the features. Words can be placed in the in to text boxes. The text boxes can be moved to various locations in the space.
Use you iPAD 2 as a Document Camera
The nice part of having the iPAD 2 is that it displays everything. That includes the camera on the front and on the back. Board Cam allows the iPAD 2 to become a Document Camera. You may want to invest into something with a cradle to hold the iPad upright and in the same location. I like to Altec Lasing Speaker Dock or the iPAD keyboard Dock. This app allows annotation on what the camera is viewing or to have a laser pointer to show something specific.
Collaborate in Groups
Use Shareboard or Whiteboard VGA Out to have student link together. Students can share whiteboard space, and draw on one screen. Whiteboard VGA Out can allow one drawing space to be displayed through the VGA Connector. If you are interested in using large groups, you may want to look into purchasing a Groupboard Designer server license.
Taking Notes on Notes
Most teachers and professors have their notes in PDF format that can be downloaded. Open the PDF in Noterize app. Students can highlight and place comment notes on the pdf. File can be save to device or back to a cloud storage. Noterize gives similar functionality to Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.
iPAD Audio/Video Podcast Studio
Student can use iPrompt Pro on one iPAD and DJ SoundBox on another iPAD near the recording device (iPAD using iTalk lite if creating an audio podcast). The iPAD with iPrompt Pro acts as a teleprompter with the text that scrolls on the screen. DJ SoundBox plays sound effects such as radio news breaks and other sounds. The podcast can be recorded and uploaded to a storage site.
Share-a-Cell
Students use 3D Cell Simulation and Stain Tool to create a cell. Students can stain and save the cell. Using fileDisplay orPower Projector, students can share cell with the class. Students can discuss traits that the cell has.
Replacing Graphing Calculators
Students can use PI-83 to as a graphing calculator and the instructor can project the graph should look like using Graphing Calculator HD. You may also want to take a look at Quick Graph (which projects) and MyCalculator Pro.
Collecting Data from Experiments
Use Forms to collect data from experiments that can be synced to Google Docs. Numbers can be used in a similar function, but it is not projectable.. The Data can be projected in the front of the class for each group or person can discuss what they saw. Google Docs can displayed through a number of browser projection apps. Power Presenter give the most bang for your buck.
Art Class Simulations
Students can use Artrage and Let's Create! Pottery HD to simulate the artistic creations. Both apps have the option save work as an image. I have used used Artrage on a SMARTboard for a while and it is excellent. The app works well on the iPAD, too. Pottery is a really fun that is based on the wheel. The app can make cups, vases, and plates. Students receive points for being creative and can be used to add features.
